THE FORMULATION INTELLIGENCE

Dr. Ryan Turner is a board-certified dermatologist who studied biochemistry and molecular biology. That dual training shapes not only how he reads skin, but how he formulates for it.

He does not formulate from ingredient convention, but from the biological mechanisms compromised skin is struggling to regulate.

Where conventional skincare often begins with familiar actives and category precedent, this formula begins elsewhere: with the pathways compromised skin relies upon for barrier integrity, microbiome resilience, and visible recovery.

The result is a serum that pairs established dermatological actives with less conventional compounds chosen for a clear clinical reason: CB2-pathway modulation, dual-pathway brightening support, postbiotic delivery through the preservation system, and adaptogenic recovery support for skin under chronic inflammatory pressure.

“I started with a question I had been asking for fifteen years: what does compromised skin actually need at a biological level that the standard approach was never providing? Each ingredient in this serum reflects a specific clinical observation about what compromised skin lacks, what it cannot comfortably tolerate, and what conventional formulas may not address.”

THE FOUR ELEMENTS OF RESTORE

THE SCIENCE

Four levels of clinical restoration.
Because compromised skin is never a single-cause condition.

Compromised skin does not fall out of balance through a single mechanism, nor is it restored through one alone.

This formula was designed to address multiple biological pressures simultaneously, with ingredients selected for their relevance to the way compromised skin actually behaves.

01 | THE CB2 PATHWAY

Stress-response inflammation: Copaiba

Compromised skin often exists in a state of chronic, low-grade inflammatory pressure, driven by cortisol, amplified by barrier decline, and insufficiently addressed by standard anti-inflammatory approaches.

Copaiba was chosen for its concentration of beta-caryophyllene, a compound known to engage the CB2 pathway in skin. Rather than simply quieting visible inflammation, it helps support the stress-response mechanism contributing to it.

Visible effect: skin that appears calmer, less reactive, and more settled over time.

02 | THE DUAL BRIGHTENING PATHWAY

Why single-mechanism brightening is often not enough: Paeonia Albiflora Root + Niacinamide 5% + Licorice Root

Most brightening serums focus on one mechanism. For compromised skin, particularly skin vulnerable to post-inflammatory discoloration, that is often insufficient.

Here, niacinamide works alongside paeonia albiflora root and licorice root to address visible unevenness through a broader biological approach. The result is a formula better suited to the complexity of lingering marks and tone irregularity driven by inflammation.

Visible effect: skin that appears more even, more clarified, and less marked by the visible aftereffects of breakouts and irritation.

03 | THE LIVING FORMULA

A preservation system that also supports the skin ecosystem: Leuconostoc Radish Root Ferment Filtrate

Most preservation systems are designed solely to protect the formula. This one was chosen to do more.

Leuconostoc radish root ferment filtrate helps preserve the formula while delivering postbiotic metabolites to the skin ecosystem itself. That distinction matters profoundly for skin whose microbiome has been progressively disrupted by years of aggressive products.

This is not simply a technical choice. It is a philosophical one: a formula for compromised skin should support biological intelligence, not work against it.

Visible effect: skin that feels more supported, less over-stripped, and better able to recover over time.

04 | THE RESTORATION ARCHITECTURE

Multiple levels of support, working at once: Niacinamide 5% + Bakuchiol + Hyaluronic Acid + Recovery Complex

Niacinamide at 5% was chosen to support ceramide production while visibly improving tone, texture, pores, redness, and post-breakout discoloration.

Bakuchiol was chosen as a gentle alternative to retinol for a clinical reason: skin that is barrier-compromised, reactive, or in recovery often cannot comfortably tolerate additional disruption.

Hyaluronic acid, sodium PCA, glycerin, and propanediol replenish hydration where compromised skin loses it first. Reishi mushroom, lipids, and the wider recovery complex provide support for skin that appears depleted, shiny, congested, uneven, or chronically unsettled.

Visible effect: skin that appears fuller, smoother, more comfortable, and more visibly restored.
